Album culture is back in Nigeria like it never left
Many will say Burna Boy‘s African Giant has easily been the best music project this year.
Despite the Grammy nomination of the African Giant Album, it will still be grossly unfair not to acknowledge the fact that an International Award nomination doesn’t translate to an Album being the best in Nigeria.
Falz’s Moral Instructions is one album that made significant impact in Nigeria, the Album had almost the same thematic structure as Burna Boy’s African Giant Album.
Moral Instructions’ Album by Falz won Album of The Year Award at the Headies and we all agree it was well deserved.
Imagine Falz having the same International exposure as Burna Boy, maybe we would have been celebrating his Moral Instructions Album Grammy nominations instead.
Yet, this year has been one where almost all artistes have dropped projects. Rema has paid his dues with three EPs, the last one, Bad Commando EP help solidify his stake for the Next Rated Awards which he eventually won.
Teni also has an EP with BillionaireEP, then you also realize Ycee, Peruzzi and Joeboy dropped their individual projects not too long.
With Zanku Album Zlatan became the first street artiste to drop a project after a year as an established act and it’s not a lie if we say we’ve not being burdened with albums and EPs like this year.
However, after 7 years Davido finally considered dropping his highly anticipated album, titled “A Good Time” themed on his life experiences for the past seven years with a body of music work.
No doubt, the long lost Album culture in the Nigeria’s music industry is now back like it never left. We all felt many of these albums this year in the music industry.
