Every year, we in our minds evaluate how we’ve performed or fared in the last 12 months.

We look back from January 1 when we said Happy New Year, then we examine our achievements, our losses, the beautiful moments.

It’s probably the same thing in the music industry. In the last 12 months, I think it’s worrying that Tiwa Savage has only one single to her name and a couple of collaborations.

Is her deal with Universal Music restricting her to drop more songs?

Tiwa in 2018 dropped four songs in total Labalaba, Tiwa’s Vibe, One, Lova Lova and not forgetting her fiery verse on Diet. What’s happening?

Yemi Alade on the hand seems to be on a roller-coaster supply of singles.

She has dropped an album, a few singles preceding an album, a licensing deal with Universal Music and did you forget Yemi Alade also collaborated with American Hip Hop Legend, Rick Ross on Oh My Gosh Remix. What a year she’s having!

Teni also started the year on fire, the visuals to Uyo Meyo dropped documenting her progress as a rising artist, and according to certified sources, Teni was the most booked artist last year December, sometimes performing at two, three shows in a day.

On the back of that, she had a somewhat mixed 2019. Yet, she’s managed to sneak in a viral hit in “Billionaire” and she’s also dropped a delightful body of work, “Billionaire EP”.

It’s hard to decide on who particularly deserves to be crowned female artiste of the year, this 2019.
